Supernatural {You Can’t Handle the Truth}

Dean holding a knife up to SamNamed after the famous line by Jack Nicholson, this week’s episode of Supernatural dealt with people who were forced to tell the truth. This was the best episode of the year and it gave us some answers that we have wanted to know all season.

People are being forced to tell the truth thanks to the Goddess of Truth, Veritas, who was summoned by an obsessed girlfriend. After she conducted her spell to get the Goddess there, everyone who asks for the truth in her town will get brutal honesty.

This results in a few suicides that get the brothers interested. After a while, Dean falls under the spell and starts hearing the truth from Bobby and Lisa. Bobby has a very funny scene where he confesses that Dean is his favorite, but Sam is the better hunter.

However, Lisa cuts Dean loose, as she is upset about Dean pushing Ben in the last episode, and breaks up with him. This all leads up to the question of the year so far. What is going on with Sam?

Well, he somehow manages to lie to Dean and Veritas, but she figured it out and he had to tell the actual truth. It turns out that Sam is just Sam and he has some big issues to deal with.

After Sam reveals this, Dean responds by beating his head in with his fist. That was a great ending to what was the best episode of the year.

This episode had a lot of drama, answers, comedy, and a very disgusting scene where Veritas eats a human tongue. Jensen and Jared continue to have great on-screen chemistry and they both deliver excellent performances this week.

Castiel also made an appearance this week and added some comic relief, but then he left and did not return. I am glad that the angel war has taken a back seat, but Castiel should be in the show more than he is now. He is a great character who has not had much to do this season.

The title of the episode was spot on because I do not think that Dean can handle that the person who allowed him to be turned into a vampire is in fact, his brother. Bobby told Dean early on in the episode that the only thing worse than Sam being the devil was being himself.

While this season hasn’t been the best thus far, it has had a few great episodes, and I am glad that they are getting to the truth about Sam early in the season. Let’s hope that they can figure out how to help Sam and get back to the brothers fighting monsters without all the drama.
