Perfect Couples {Perfect Proposal}

Along with the other NBC comedies, Perfect Couples was one of the few shows actually on this week. However, not being on the air would have been much better. This show is just awful.

I didn’t even laugh once. Not even a smirk or chuckle. The show revolves around three couples that are in different stages in their relationships.

Can there be anything original anymore? Til’ Death and Rules of Engagement had this exact same premise, and both were funnier.

Til’ Death may have only had two couples, and was overall bad, but it made me laugh sometimes. With Rules of Engagement, it is two couples and a single guy who constantly sleeps with women, but that show is still on and it is consistently funny.

But this is just terrible. One of the “jokes” in the episode was that the youngest couple, Vance and Amy, got engaged while arguing. How is that funny?

That is stressful to watch two people yell at each other. Not only that, but they did it for most of the episode. They showed how they constantly argue, but then they seem to work it out is some bizarre way.

One time, they blamed the meat they were eating. Another time, they thought a bird would help them get along better. It was just stupid.

The rest of the cast includes Dave and Julia, who are the normal couple that have been married for a while, and Rex and Leigh, who are literally a perfect couple.

So, the episode revolved around the engagement and how Vance was actually having second thoughts.

He gets Dave to try and tell him and Amy that they aren’t good for each other. However, Rex knew what was going on, and because he has the perfect relationship, he has to tell Leigh.

They show up and tell Amy that Vance was having second thoughts and set this whole thing up, and she leaves. Vance finds her, makes up, and he ends up proposing to her again in a much better situation.

However, there was one part in this episode that made me hate this show. Not just dislike it for not being funny, but also seriously hate it. At one point when Vance was making up with Amy, Dave tries to tell them that they are not ready for marriage.

Julia responds by saying that they actually don’t need to be ready and eventually tells Dave that she wasn’t ready on the day of their wedding either.

She tells him that she was drunk and we see a flashback to that day and it was so obvious she was drunk. On what is supposed to be the greatest day of her life, she got drunk. God, that was just wrong. I mean, she will have to live with the fact that she never had a real wedding because she won’t remember it and make a complete idiot out of herself.

And how is it that the other people at the wedding didn’t realize it? She was falling down, she shoved her face into the cake, she was tipsy, along with other obvious things that showed she was drunk.

Dave was so stupid that he actually believed her when she said she was drunk with happiness. As bad as all that was, it isn’t even the worst part.

It turns out that Rex and Leigh got engaged on the same day as Dave and Julia’s wedding. Not only that, Rex proposed to her in front of everybody.

Not only that, but he proposed the day he met her. They didn’t even know each other, yet he was spouting off some stuff about Shakespeare, and she was just so flattered.

I get that they were trying to run the with idea of love at first sight, but that was too far. Who proposes on the same day they meet someone?

It is just unrealistic. And on the same day as your best friend’s wedding? What a good friend he is.

That whole part made me hate this show. It has unlikeable characters, awful comedy, and unrealistic stories. The worst part is that NBC has a few of the best comedies on TV that same night.

They need to get rid of this show and Outsourced so that Community, The Office, Parks and Recreation, and 30 Rock can be the two-hour block. That is a stellar lineup.

However, they want to run any piece of garbage to get three hours of comedy and that is wrong. Please stay away from this show. It is just awful.

  1. WOW!! An “F”!! Well, I’ll be sure not to watch. I also get very sick of supposed couple who argue all the time. It was kind of funny on Raymond, but for the most part, it just makes one wonder why these people got married at all. Anyway, thanks for the heads up.
