We learned a bit more about Paul Miles here a few weeks back after I crossed paths with him at the Lansing Bluesfest in Old Town.

He’s at it again in Lansing on Saturday November 20 with an appearance at Everybody Reads Books and Stuff on Michigan Ave. This time, Paul’s bringing a completely different genre of music, a song and tribute he wrote called We Live In Michigan.
Paul has already started work on a musical based on the conditions in Detroit, but with a “Hair” like quality that says yeah, we’ve got problems but we’ve got life, too and we’re going to make it.
He’s has been bringing music to the world since his college days at the coffee shops around Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where he was also a star football player.
Someone who heard one of the songs from the Detroit-based musical suggested to Paul that he write a song about Michigan in general. He agreed and wrote, performed and produced the CD single that will be available on Saturday or at this link.

It will also be available as a download soon.
Partial proceeds from each purchase will go to a local food-related charity such as The Greater Lansing Food Bank.
“I wanted to help raise a positive view of Michigan to the world,” explained Paul about his inspiration to write lyrics like:
“We live in Michigan,
proud to be Americans,
by the Great Lake waters,
so blue.
We live in Michigan.
We’re on the move again.
Our history shows this we can do.”
At Everybody Reads, he will also be doing his classic blues throughout the afternoon. There will be guest speakers, as well, to say a few words about their own experiences living in Michigan and what that means to them. The festivities start at 3pm and will go about three hours.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun to leave politics behind for awhile and have a nice celebration of what we have in common in our state, not what divides us,” Paul added.
While he’s in town promoting the CD release, Paul will do his sit down blues show at Mumbai Cuisine in East Lansing on Wednesday, November 17 from 7-10 pm.
A radio premiere of We Live In Michigan will happen with an appearance on the LCC’s WLNZ radio station on Thursday November 18 with Jack Robbins during his morning show Coffee Break. This caps off the release of the song before Paul heads to Arizona for the winter.
And what does Mr. Miles have to say about leaving us all here to face the long, cold Michigan winter?
“As a street performer, something I’ll keep doing as long as I can, you gotta go where the sun shines, baby” says the man who has played the avenues of Paris and the brick paths of Switzerland, as well.
The event at Everybody Reads is family friendly. Free parking on Saturdays in rear.
