Fenner Nature Center is holding its Maple Syrup Festival on Saturday and Sunday, March 15 and 15, featuring activities to keep kids busy for free all day.
In the video, Deb Fogle of Sugar Bush Supplies in Okemos boils down the sap that then goes inside where her assistant turns it into maple creme. (Free samples.) Kids have the opportunity to bore holes into trees and insert taps, while experts explain the labor-intensive process of extracting the sap from the trees.
The festival also includes numerous opportunities for kids to earn activity stamps for a passport that they can enter into a drawing. Activities include lectures by the Voyageurs about how the French and Indians worked and traded together, food from Soup 2 Nuts Bistro and a used book and CD sale.
