The Good Wife continues to get better and better. In this week’s episode, Lockhart, Gardner & Bond try to take down a pharmaceutical company. However, the big news about this episode was Michael J. Fox.
He was excellent in his guest role as opposing counsel. He tried to use his disease and sneaky tactics to win over the jury, and he made his character easy to dislike.
It was a struggle for much of the episode, but in the end, Alicia and the firm won $35 million dollars. However, Fox tells her that his company feared the case was worth $70 million and hoped to settle at $50 million. sO While Alicia and her firm are celebrating, Fox is also celebrating because he saved his company so much money that they gave him a $1.3 million dollar bonus and stock options.
There were two other great storylines this week. The first was about Kalinda. Her battle with fellow investigator Blake is escalating. She went to Cary for some information on him, and Blake brought Kalinda’s ex-girlfriend to the firm’s celebration after the victory.
Yes, Kalinda has an ex-girlfriend. She appears to be bisexual and is quite mysterious. In this episode, we learn that she had a serious relationship with a public defender named Donna, played by Lili Taylor.
The final subplot dealt with Peter’s campaign. Eli’s attempts to dish dirt on Wendy Scott-Carr backfired. Wendy has a great singing voice, volunteers at a soup kitchen and helps out at her daughter’s public school. But Eli discovers that she had breast augmentation, so he encourages folks from the Glen Child’s campaign to release a viral video called “Wendy Scott-Carr’s Double D’s” that suggests the do-gooder is vain. However, Wendy turns out to be a breast cancer survivor, forcing Child’s campaign manager to resign.
That was a great little twist, as was the subplot about Alicia and Peter’s daughter Grace supporting Wendy. Grace was caught on tape at a rally for her dad’s opponent, where she gushed about how inspiring Grace is.
Her dad is running for senator, and she is rooting for somebody else? Look, I understand that Peter did some terrible things, and I still think that Alicia should leave him, but as his daughter, there should be no question about whom she wants to win.
I would never root against my parents in anything they do, and I would hope most people wouldn’t either. It was frustrating to see, and I hope that this storyline does not progress much further.
The Good Wife is moving up the ranks and becoming one of the best programs on television. This show has great episodes each week, and this one was no exception. It was great to see Michael J. Fox and to see him do such a great job. With a terrific lead actress and mostly great storylines all around, this show is easily the best law show on television right now.
