I must admit that this show is not that bad. At first, I thought this show was going to be terrible. I have never liked Jim Belushi much, and Jerry O’Connell, who can be funny, can also come off as a jerk.
However, their chemistry works much better than expected. Belushi stars as Nick Morelli and O’Connell as Pete Kaczmarek, two defense attorneys in Las Vegas who act much more seriously than you might expect.
For a show set in Las Vegas, it sure didn’t seem like it. Aside from a few short scenes that involved gambling and sex, this show focused on the law and that is a good and bad thing.
I like that they took their jobs seriously, but since they are in Vegas, they should try to have more fun.
Much of the show was a regular law procedural. The show featured a newcomer to their law firm, Lisa Tyler, played by Jurnee Smollet. She is immediately abandoned by Pete on a case about which she knew nothing. He told her to plead not guilty, and it turned out fine, but that was careless on his part.
He told her that Nick did the same thing to him when he started, but that still doesn’t seem like it was right to do.
This week’s case involved a murderer who demanded that they go to trial. The young man, Dan, killed a football player in a driveway during a fight. The situation involved four big football players fighting Dan and his brother, who were both small and skinny. In the end, Dan got a gun, intending to scare the football players, but he ended up killing one of them.
Surprisingly, much of the humor in this episode came from the courtroom and not in casinos or at a bar. In fact, the few scenes the two leads were in a bar, they discussed Nick’s separation from his wife.
Belushi seemed to have stepped it up for this role. He plays the more serious partner, while O’Connell is the player who has a lot of sex and gambles.
It is not great, but you should check out if you have the time.
College Couch Potato Grade: C+
Hey…Love the new grading system. Makes sense and hits this show on the nose. Anyway, what’s wrong with Jim Belushi?
The grading system really helps, however so does your taste in shows which runs pretty close to mine, if you give it a C+ then I’ll probably wait till i can catch it online and not run out and try to see it right away.
hummm I don’t know… I’m not sure if I could handle another law show… they all seem to be a like..
I do love how you’ve pointed out the pros and cons of the show to let us know what to expect… makes it easier to decide whether it’s something I’d want to watch.
Ive never seen the show before, but Ill def have to look it up! Thanks for the cool review <3!
Thats why you dont scare people away with guns! Hope they do more with the Vegas angle too! Really like the grade system. Thx
