We got a glimpse into the kinds of things soulless Sam was doing in the year without Dean.
The brothers were interested in a case that involved missing women and they decided to check it out. While they were there, Sam started to have visions of a case he was dealing with a year ago in the same town.
When Dean found out about the case, he urged them to leave and have a different hunter solve it. However, Sam convinced him that they should figure out the problem and deal with it themselves.
I like that Sam wants to fix the wrong things that he did while he was without a soul. He has always been the nicer one and it is certainly like him to want to correct his mistakes. However, it seemed like the brothers had the exact same conversation twice in this episode.
I have no issue with them discussing problems or other things, but it felt like déjà vu. Once when Dean found out about him being there a year ago, and also towards the end. It’s a small complaint, but I wish they didn’t have that second conversation.
Anyway, the case was about a spider creature called an Arachne that was originally stealing males, but then turned to females.
We actually learn that when the female arachne took the men, she made them one of her own and they were the ones stealing the women in the present day.
In Sam’s visions, we got to see that he defeated the arachne, and the sheriff was the one the brothers were after.
It turned out that Sam actually shot all the men who had been captured. He thought he had killed him, but the sheriff told him that they were already turning and bullets couldn’t kill them.
We already knew about some of the darker things Sam did without a soul, but killing innocent people showed how ruthless he was. He may not have killed these men, but it shows that he probably did kill other people.
So, we didn’t get to see any more of the arachnes, but the sheriff said that all of the men who went missing were turned, which might mean that will see more of them in the future.
After defeating the sheriff, the brothers were ready to leave, but then Sam started to have a seizure. We then go inside of his head to see that he has begun to remember hell.
This was anther fantastic ending and showed that the wall can easily be scratched.
This was another good episode. I think that last week’s was a little better, but this one was certainly intriguing.
Seeing more of the darkness in soulless Sam was excellent, and that ending certainly added a lot more to the episode.
Next week seems to be a standard hunt, so we may not come back to the issue of the wall for a couple of episodes, but I will be patiently waiting.
