With the season coming to an end, we know something big is going to happen. The reveal last episode that Castiel was working with Crowley was a shock and certainly needed some answers.
Not only did we get that with this episode, but we also got Castiel’s full story and it was a good one. He began in a forest talking to God, while explaining his past and all the things he had encountered.
He then went on to narrate the episode. When we see Sam, Dean, and Bobby, they were torturing a monster to get information about Crowley out of him. In this scene, the three have a conversation about Castiel and Dean was the only one who defended him.
At this point, they did not know whether or not Castiel was bad or not, so for Sam and Bobby to assume he was working with Crowley was a kind of wrong. They had been working together for years, and it seemed odd that they didn’t have the trust Dean did.
Unfortunately, they were right, and not only that, but Castiel began to spy on them. Anyway, as the three were getting closer to Crowley, Castiel finally got to the reason why he was working with Crowley.
It turns out that Raphael wanted to take charge in Heaven but Castiel did not want to follow him. He decided to get his own army and begin a Civil War. He needed help, but because this was the time when Dean was with his family, he couldn’t’ get help from him.
However, Crowley was there to make him a deal. He takes him to Hell, which is just a very long line that people never get out of, and they discuss the terms. The idea was to open purgatory and they would each get half of the souls inside.
Crowley sweetened the deal by telling him he could give him a lot of souls first to get started and from then on, they have been working along side each other.
This was an interesting turn in the season and I was glad to see that Castiel did not become evil. He is working with the king of hell, but he is not evil.
Unfortunately, thanks to Castiel using a pop culture reference overheard in a conversation, Sam, Dean, and Bobby figured out he was working with Crowley. They trapped him and had a great conversation about trust and how he should have done something other than work with Crowley. We also find out that Castiel rose Sam from Hell.
I really liked this part and I believe that this was a turning point in the entire series. Since season 4, Castiel has been right there, but the fact that he is working with Crowley changes the relationship between him and the brothers.
The brothers and Bobby left when Crowley showed up and the episode ended with a conversation between Dean and Castiel. It was another great scene and showed that Castiel will do what has to be done.
This episode set up the last two episodes in a great way and it was one of the best all season. The fact that Castiel is working with Crowley changes a lot of things about the series.
Whenever they have these episodes that revolve around Castiel or Bobby, they are always great and this one was no exception. Misha continues to impress with his acting and this may have been his best performance on the show.
While I do think that season 6 has been one of the weaker seasons, I have really enjoyed the last few episodes and I think we will get a great conclusion to the
season. We may see a showdown between the brothers and Castiel, which would be very interesting. Even if that doesn’t happen, I still can’t wait to see it.
