After such a great track record with comedy, I never thought that Supernatural would be able to produce it’s funniest episode this deep into its run.
However, they pulled it off. In their most meta episode ever, they had great jokes running for the full hour.
It began with Balthazar telling the brothers that Raphael was sending someone to kill other angels and take his weapons he had from Heaven. So, he gave Sam and Dean the key to the weapons and sent them into an alternate universe where they play actors in a show called Supernatural.
This is the type of over-the-top premise that this show has done for years. It never fails and it is one of the reasons why it is one of the best shows on TV.
So, they are obviously confused as to what is going on. They find out that Castiel is actually an actor named Misha who is addicted to Twitter, Sam is married to fake Ruby, and that their acting skills are not very good.
Most of the things in this episode are true to real life. Jared, Sam, is married to fake ruby, who is Genevieve cortese, and Jensen, Dean, did play on Days of Our Lives.
It was great to see his reaction to this guy playing in a soap opera. Plus, that acting scene was so hilarious. There are some really great comedies on TV right now, but there hasn’t been a show this year that made me laugh at something more than that acting scene.
It went on for about three or four minutes, and I was laughing from the start to the end. However, there were more pressing matters than the alternate Sam and Dean.
The hit man of Raphael found his way into their universe and tried to kill them. But, powers and other supernatural things did not work at all. So, he bought a gun and started killing everyone.
He killed Robert Singer, a producer, Misha, and even Eric Kripke, the creator. Sam and Dean finally got to him and managed to get back to their universe. It ended with the story moving forward.
We found out that Balthazar gave the brothers a fake key so that Raphael would be looking for them. He actually gave the real key to Castiel, who now holds the weapons.
That was a great conclusion to the episode. Another great part that I haven’t mentioned was when Dean was telling Sam that it might have been better for them to stay in that world.
They were rich actors, had great lives, and they wouldn’t have to deal with all the monsters and demons.
We love to see them hunt, but he made a good point. The only troubling thing about the universe was that Jared and Jensen didn’t talk much at all. Everyone was surprised to see them working together.
Everything else about the show seemed to be true, so it makes you wonder if the actors really aren’t that close. It seems highly unlikely since they seem to have so much fun on set, but we don’t know everything going on behind the scenes.
Anyway, this episode wasn’t just the funniest episode of the series, it was one of the best episodes overall. Everything from beginning to end was classic. If I tried to point out more great moments, this review would get way too long.
The best part about it was that it also moved the story along a little, so it wasn’t just some random episode that didn’t mean anything.
I recommend this episode to anyone who is a fan of the show. It was probably the funniest episode of a TV show this year, but I will say that if you are not a fan, or someone who hasn’t been watching it long, you might not get many of the jokes.
Everything with the crew might be lost on those people, but for the fans of the series since the beginning, it was outstanding.
It was easily the best episode of the season, and if the rest of the episodes can produce this quality, we are in for quite a finish.
College Couch Potato Grade: A+
It was definitely hilarious. These guys have a great sense of comic timing and it was so nice to take a little bit of a break from the regular stuff.
I haven’t seen this episode because I need to watch Season 5 first.
It sounds hilarious though, looking forward to seeing it! I feel like if there was a part where these guys didn’t get along it might have been some kind of an inside joke (like Misha Collins with the Twitter thing). Like you said, we don’t always know what goes on behind the scenes of television and movies so sometimes people might seem to like eachother better than they really do. However, it seems to me like Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are in a lot of pictures and things online that show them together at events such as baseball and basketball games….and restaurants together with their girlfriends that don’t really have anything to do with publicity for the show.
I loved the scene where they were “filming Supernatural” and Dean told Sam to look anywhere but the camera. I was laughing so hard at that. I also like how it showed how difficult it is to film a show, like the part where it showed that the guys were having trouble standing on the marks for their cameras it was really interesting. I wonder if the trailers were actually the trailers that Jensen and Jared use?
I agree this episode is one of the funniest ones they have ever done! I love when Dean tells Sam to look anywhere but the camera and he’s looking up at the ceiling saying his lines. Lol when they are “filming Supernatural” it was great! I love how it showed them having trouble finding their marks and stuff too when they were filming the show and I wonder if the trailers they showed were Jensen and Jared’s actual dressing rooms?
