Warning: This review contains spoilers. Do not read this unless you have seen the episode.
While this review may be very late, the finale is still over a week away. This season has been a little more mixed in terms of quality, but these past few episodes have been excellent.
This episode had a few shocking moments and set up the last few episodes of the season. It began with the Mother of all showing up at a bar and while using her power, she gets everyone to start killing everyone else.
This was certainly one of the more violent openings in a while and it was great to see the Mother actually do something worth watching.
After that, we find out that the ashes cannot hurt humans, and Dean starts to worry that they won’t work on the Mother. They get some help from a vampire that they once knew, who tells them which city the Mother is in.
After going around town, they find out that the Mother is turning them into shifters that were dying. It did not make sense, but they found out which bar she went to.
It turns out that she was turning people into vampires/wraiths and because they did not have a name, Dean decided to call them “Jefferson Starships.” This was classic and I have to say that the comedy in this episode was great.
Castiel has only gotten funnier since he began and Dean calling him a baby was very funny. While at the bar, they get arrested for the deaths of all the people. However, the cops were starships and the guys had to kill them.
While they were at the station, Sam and Dean came across two young boys and took them home. It may not seem that important, but the young brothers reminded Sam and Dean of themselves.
It was great to have this type of story right now. The brothers’ relationship hasn’t been good since season 3 and they are finally getting back to the great chemistry they once had.
So, after interrogating one of the Starships, they figure out where the Mother is. When Sam and Dean get there, the place is crowded with starships and the Mother takes their weapons.
They then have a long conversation about what has been going on. She is there due to Crowley kidnapping and torturing her children. She added an effect by transforming into their mom, who is a much better actress.
She informs them that Crowley is alive and is after the monsters for their souls. That way, he could use them to become very powerful. In response to this, the Mother is trying to turn everyone into her own.
I was glad to hear an explanation of the things that have been happening. I knew it would happen soon and I do like how this season is playing out.
We also learn that the young brothers were turned and they kill their relatives. After denying a proposition from her, Dean cleverly kills her. Before their conversation, Dean drank some whiskey with some of the phoenix ash, and it killed her when she bit him.
This was a truly shocking moment. I had no idea she would die so easily. I actually kind of liked it, because every other main villain has taken at least a full season to kill and with the Mother, they took care of her easily.
The ending showed that Crowley and Castiel were working together. It was the third time in the episode that I was shocked. I had no idea Castiel would be working with the king of hell.
This episode was easily one of the best all year and the fact that they killed the Mother and opened up Castiel’s story as we get close to the finale was great. The acting, comedy, and drama were all very good.
I can’t wait to see what happens with Castiel and hear his side of why he is working with Crowley.

Looking forward to the finale. Should be Great!
