Well, this episode was shocking, with a surprise at the end.
After last week’s beat down, Dean and Castiel tried to figure out what has been going on with Sam. They found that he has lost his soul, apparently when he was dragged out of hell. Dean decided to work with Sam to get his soul back.
However, first they went on a hunt. It turns out that Samuel has a lead on the Alpha Vamp, and they follow it up. Dean is told to stay back on the hunt while most of the other hunters go after the vamp.
I did not like this part at all. There are reasons why he stayed back that were revealed later, but all of the characters were talking to Dean like he was a terrible reject. If I am not mistaken, he just took out like 20 vampires all by himself a few weeks ago. I was very frustrated at everyone’s attitude towards Dean in those few scenes.
After the vamp is captured, the vamp is actually put in a van instead of killed. Dean sees this and gets the truth out of Sam. He told him that Samuel has been keeping monsters to interrogate them.
Dean was not happy about this, and neither was I. In a show like 24, torture works, but with Supernatural, they just need to go with Dean’s philosophy. Shoot first, ask questions later.
So, they follow Samuel to where he does his interrogations and manage to have a chat with Vamp. He tells them that Samuel has been wondering where Purgatory is. He said that monsters like him go there, and that Samuel wants to know where it is.
That was an interesting reveal, as they have dealt with the other aspects of the afterlife, it was only a matter of time. After their discussion, Samuel catches the brothers and they leave the room.
They assign the worst hunter ever to watch over the Alpha Vamp, and he escapes. Seriously, what is up with shows and movies that do this kind of thing. I don’t like the cousins, but Christian would have been much better. As soon as the Vamp cut loose from his chair, the kid started running away, only to die.
So, after this, Dean commands control and tells them to kill the Vamp when they see him. Well, this is where many shocking reveals come to light. The cousins get the Vamp, but they are actually demons.
This is when Crowley shows up. He tells them that he dragged Sam and Samuel out of hell, and he can give Sam his soul back by just a snap of his fingers. He also tells them that he is the king of hell and that he is also looking for pergatory because of location, location, location.
It is also revealed that Samuel has been working for Crowley this whole time. In the end, Sam wanted to kill Samuel, but Dean let him go and the brothers are left to decide whether they should work for Crowley or not.
This was another great episode. I thought the first fourty-five minutes were decent, but I was shocked by the all the reveals in the scene with Crowley. He is a very interesting character that you love to hate, but yet you kind of like him overall.
I was also glad that Dean let Samuel go at the end. As much as I want to see him and the rest of the cousins go, the worst way would be for family to kill him. Dean showed that no matter how terrible a family member can be, they are still family.
There was some good comedy in this episode as well. When Castiel mentioned that his true life form was as big as the Chrysler building and Dean told him to stop bragging, that was hilarious.
The end of this episode made it great. This season has been improving each week and I hope that now, the brothers will be encountering many monsters in the coming episodes.

I was also a bit aggravated by the first part of this episode. What gets me about the “family” is that they act like they are the greatest hunters ever assembled. Well, where were they when Sam and Dean were battling Hell for the last couple of years? Also, when they were in that little town where all the hunters had been brought by the demons a couple of season enders ago? I don’t know…Anyway, did appreciate the attempt to rid us of most of these and explain a bit more about Sam and Gramps. Will be kind of cool to see the boys working for Crowley over the next couple episodes.
