It is hard to follow such a fantastic episode like “The French Mistake.” However, this week’s episode had some very shocking moments and we learned more about Mother.
She actually began the episode getting a ride from a random truck driver. She infected him with something in his ear and he ended up killing his entire family.
Along with Bobby, the brothers went to investigate. They ran into Rufus and he decided to work with them. Their hunt took them to an abandoned building where they ran into Samuel and Gwen.
Apparently, Mother unleashed this worm that could crawl into a person’s ear and that would make them kill people. We also learn that her name is actually Eve.
This is where the episode became shocking. Dean couldn’t handle being in a room with Samuel. So, he left, but Gwen followed him to ask him about Samuel. After Dean tells her that he did in fact try to kill his own grandsons, he shoots her and kills her.
I was not expecting that and I had no idea that the worm was in Dean. Everybody started looking for him, and when they found him, the worm was gone. For a while, the rest of the group wondered whom it was in.
It got into Samuel and they eventually killed him. It was long over due. I am one of the many people who wanted the guy gone for good and it has finally happened. That was probably the best part of the episode.
The worm left and once again, they didn’t know whom it was in. There were only two ways to find that out. By checking their ears for a goop-like substance or to electrocute the worm out. So, they had to go with the latter and check everyone.
It turned out to be Bobby and he killed Rufus. Nobody on this show is safe. They keep killing these great characters, but I guess it is just part of the job. It was certainly shocking and the fact that it was by Bobby, even though he was infected, was even worse.
The brothers tied him up and asked him some questions, but they didn’t learn a whole lot. So, in hopes of Bobby surviving, Dean electrocutes him for as long as it took for the worm to come out.
Eventually, it killed the worm, and Bobby just barely made it. The last scene was very heartbreaking and the actors did a great job.
They were at the cemetery where they buried Rufus and Bobby told them about how Rufus got him started and how they worked together for years just like Sam and Dean have done.
He also told them about how he did something horrible to Rufus and couldn’t be forgiven. Dean responded by saying he should have been. He also said that the slate was clean between them and he forgave Bobby and Sam for anything they may have done over the years.
That was great and it seems like we are getting back to that relationship the brothers had in the first few seasons. So, the episode ended with Bobby standing their alone, pouring Rufus’s favorite drink on his grave and drinking it as well.
This episode was a lot more serious than last week and it started to move the story along. There may only be six episodes left, but that it plenty of time for them to get this big story done with.
Supernatural has always kept big stories out of the way for as long as possible so that they could deal with hunts. The fact that Mother has only been on the show for a very small time so far is nothing new.
I did enjoy this episode and thought that there were some shocking moments. It had a few comedic lines as usual, but it was dark and different. It was another quality episode.
Unfortunately, we get another hiatus. Supernatural will return in April with an episode where the brothers go to the wild west.
