The sun has finished
the loaf,
white, crusty, hard,
warming now
on the patio table
outside the coffee shop.
The early thaw
glistens the rounded top
and the day slices away
layer by layer
ths perfect serving
of snow.

Bill Castanier has been an award-wining weekly newspaper editor, advertising and public relations executive in his 40 year career.
