Idle Pursuits
Rina Risper
No public displays of affection
a wink
a nod
a mere mention
that I had every intention
of loving you
loving you like the juice of red maraschino cherries
cascading out of the sky
turning clouds into pink cotton candy
by mixing in the beauty of magic
and that one dream when you fly.
playing the game of romantic chess
entranced in an exceptional state of consciousness
loving you like
that kind of loving that you never knew
your fingers touch the morning honey dew
your universe, I have the power to manipulate
you don’t have the choice to contemplate
I make you whole
and I still have no desire to control
Because loving me is like the soft rise and fall of the waves on the shore
the comfort of being in my arms, I thought you’d only ask for more
but
You loving me…. for you
Was like a tornado passing through
being stripped, like well rooted trees
enduring the storm but they still have lost all their leaves
I am left exposed you
surrounding me is a vast silent emptiness
Alone again….dreaming of idle pursuits
The calm before the storm was unpredictable
but the dream of loving you like that
was immensely beautiful
