Hate Mongering and Cotton Sheets
Therese Dawe
Shrouded in rhetoric, thick as fog you stand at the podium watching
As the throngs of troglodytes bow low to the ground
All hail our fearless leader
Who hides behind a veil of deceit
Feigning ignorance
But plowing fields of hatred at warp speed
A rodeo clown he calls himself
And aptly so
He who stands in the ring, goading on the angry bulls
Then jumping aside to leave the real danger
To the poor suckers in the chaps
If the bones of the dead could cry out they would
Shame you for your insidious hate mongering,
so familiar
Too many innocents hung from the gallows by those
Who viewed the world through two narrow slits
In a white cotton sheet with a hood
What women filled with hate sat late into the night
sewing these robes for their rabid men?
Fingers calloused, pins at the ready they created
a cloak of death, used to hide the faces
Of those who knew they were wrong
But screamed loud enough to make others think them right
You don’t even hide your contempt Mr. Beck
And why should you? You will never be held liable for
Attacks that will surely come
Your finger prints will not be found on any guns, or ropes
After all, you are only a rodeo clown
With minions to do your bidding
