Members of the new UNTF, which is part of the American Federation of Teachers/AFL-CIO, hand delivered charges it is filing with the U.S. Labor Relations Board. The complaint alleges that UNTF had had an agreement in writing that merit raises would take place as usual, but that Associate Provost Terry Curry then notified the Union that UNTF members would be eliminated from the raise process for this year. The union’s has filed charges alleging that the administration “violated its obligation to bargain in good faith by repudiating an agreement with respect to a mandatory subject for bargaining and unilaterally disregarding and rejecting a practice of long standing without prior good faith bargaining and without the existence of an impasse.”
Nontenure-track faculty voted 2-1 last spring to establish the union. Bargaining is underway to produce the first contract.
