Despite all the issues with Two and a Half Men, Chuck Lorre still has two other hit shows to be happy about.
One of these is Mike and Molly. Overall, its first season has been pretty good. The show follows the relationship of two overweight people.
Having the show contain some overweight jokes could have been offensive, but I haven’t found them to be rude at all.
As someone who was once overweight, I can say that most of them are actually pretty funny. Having said this, the previous episode was one of the weakest episodes of the season.
Mike goes to the Cubs opening day game with his best friend/police partner, Carl, every year. However, he thought that this year, he would invite Molly to come along.
The only issue was that they only had two tickets and the only other seat they could get was in the bleachers. Carl was against this idea from the start, but Mike wanted to do things with Molly.
Even though she tells him that it is ok to have his own traditions, she also tells him that she likes baseball and went with her dad to games. After hearing this, Mike ends up inviting her.
For me, this is where the episode went downhill. The rest of the episode revolved around the three of them at the game. They decided that one of them would sit in the bleachers for three innings, and then switch.
During the game, Molly recalls her memories with her father and starts crying. Mike was uncomfortable, but when she was talking with Carl, she got him upset as well.
That was pretty much the episode. I thought the whole second half was pretty bad. I understand that he wanted to be with her at the game, but baseball teams have 81 home games and she even told him that it was ok to go without her.
Their whole experience at the game was a mess. It did provide a few laughs, but it all seemed so unrealistic. I think in this situation, most people would have probably figured out a better way to do this.
I think that if they just had Mike and Carl go to the game, they could have had a much better episode. The same could be said if it was just Mike and Molly.
I think that it was way too much work and the whole thing aggravated me. However, as I said, there were some laughs in this episode.
It wasn’t a total loss and the chemistry between Mike and Molly, as well as Mike and Carl, are great. This episode did provide what I believe to be the first scene between only Molly and Carl.
I think that was probably the best part during the game. But, this episode was more bad than good.
I still like this show and I do recommend it to people despite the setback.
College Couch Potato Grade: D
That is the problem with so many comedies. They have to make it different than real life, so they force situations that sometimes are too unbelievable to even be funny. Don’t watch this, but a good episode about baseball may have drawn me in. GO DODGERS!
