The State of Michigan archaeologist Dr. Dean Anderson will join Lansing Online News On the Air at WLNZ Radio 89.7 FM at 7 p.m., Monday, October 7 to talk about the popular Archaeology Day which will be held at the State Historical Museum this Saturday. The annual Michigan Archaeology Day will be held Saturday October 12 at the Michigan Historical Center in Lansing. The event includes free admission to the Museum and runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and includes presentations from archaeologists on topics ranging from shipwrecks to Indian copper mining and from prehistoric Indian sites to urban Detroit archaeology. There will be exhibits from 20 archaeological groups including artifacts discovered during excavations. For budding archaeologists there will be three rooms filled with activities including pinch-pot making and visitors will have a chance to use an atlatl, and early spear throwing device used by Indians.
The state archaeologist Dr. Dean Anderson said visitors will go away with an understanding that “archaeology reveals how people lived in the past.”
