Michigan State University Journalism Major Emily Lawler, editor emeritus of the online magazine The Big Green, loves Michigan, and she loves the idea of eating local food. So Emily has challenged herself to spend an entire week eating only those foods that come from Michigan. And she promises to document her experiences with a series of YouTube videos. Today, in the hope of assuring her folks she won’t starve, Emily tackles the fine art of fishing.
Note to Emily: I hate to break the news to Dad, but just because a meat company packages sandwich meats in our state does not mean the animals were raised here. And I would not be too quick to suggest that having MI on the label provides any guarantee that the cows, pigs and chickens were raised on the small, local farms that the localvore movement envisions.
