The Historical Society of Greater Lansing has announced its October Brown Bag Lunch hour series for the “Made in Lansing” exhibit.
All programs except the one on October 1 (which will be at the RE Olds Museum) are held in the “Made in Lansing” exhibit area in the Lansing City Hall atrium. Programs start at 12:10 pm and end by 1:00 pm. Bring a brown bag if you want lunch.
“A Legacy for Lansing: Oldsmobile”. A look at the founding of the company that put Lansing on the map and a chance to see first hand the remarkable REO and Oldsmobile autos. Wednesday, October 1 at the RE Olds Museum presented by Bill Adcock, RE Olds Executive Director.
“The Lansing Wheelbarrow Company”: At one time produced Lansing Wheelbarrow Company produced 80,000 wheelbarrows a year. Learn about this important Lansing company founded in 1881 by E. W. Sparrow and C.B. Stebbins.
12:10 p.m., Wednesday, October 8 at Lansing City Hall presented by Win Stebbins, grandson of the founder. An original wooden wheelbarrow is on display in the “Made in Lansing” exhibit.

“LorAnn Oils”: from Okemos pharmacy to international company. Hear about the history of this Lansing company founded by O.K. Grettenberger which virtually created the premium flavoring and essential oil business.

The “Made in Lansing” exhibit is housed jointly in the atrium of Lansing City Hall and at the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum, and features more than 125 iconic products that were made in Lansing over the last 125 years or are still being made in the city. Among the items on display are the iconic Curved Dash Olds and the nerdy pocket protector along with the Bon Kura patent medicine.
