The session will be led by Dr. Ysaye M Barnwell.
Saturday at 8 p.m.
Robin and Linda Williams and Joel Mabus will lead the audience in songs from our American roots, including old-time classics, southern gospel and traditional selections.
Different songs will be sung each evening. Lyric books will be provided.
Bob Blackman, host of “The Folk Tradition” on WKAR FM 90.5 and frequent host of Ten Pound Fiddle concerts, will be master of ceremonies.
Six Saturday workshops (noon-4 p.m.)
Dr. Ysaye Barnwell[/caption]No need to pre-register! Just come to the Community Center, purchase a $10 workshop wristband, pick workshops that interest you, pop into the rooms, and sing! (18 and under and all students are free to all workshops.) Song sheets for each workshop will be given out by the presenter.
On Saturday morning at 11 a.m., there will be a FREE Children’s Concert, presented by Lake Effect and sponsored by the City of East Lansing. Kids of all ages are encouraged to come.
This year, Dr. Ysaye Barnwell will build the Saturday Night Festival Choir from the participants of her Saturday afternoon, four-hour workshop, BUILDING A VOCAL COMMUNITY®: Singing In The African American Tradition. Workshop participants become the Festival Choir, directed by Barnwell, and will present two pieces at the Saturday evening Community Sing.
