The Team Lansing Foundation raised $46,435.18 of its goal of $60,000 by having brave folks collect pledges for an “extreme rappel” down the Boji Building in downtown Lansing. Our very own Erin (The Sweaty Mouse) Slayter, who writes The Localvore’s Green Scene blog for Lansing Online News, took the plunge shortly after noon. As the video below shows, Erin’s mom may have been the happiest woman in town when her daughter safely touched the ground.
The Team Lansing Foundation raises money for “destination development,” which translates into supporting things that make the local culture exciting, engaging, educational and fun. The “Over the Edge” fundraiser helped to support the foundation’s popular “Be a Tourist in Your Own Home Event” event that brought individuals and families downtown on a Saturday.
Thanks for the story, the video, and the flashback to The Weepers and their fine music. I was at Boji Tower around 4pm and saw several folks come down. What an event!
Nice meeting you today, Bonnie. I was a very happy Mom when I could hug Erin! Thanks for the article.I love reading Lansing Online News.
Thanks for the kind words. And thanks for giving us Erin, who works hard to make everyone as green as they can be. (And who is an amazing risk-taker - I don’t envy you watching on the sidelines.)
