Earth Day Lansing: Laugh with a Purpose & Old Town gets a scrubbing

Want to give Earth Day Lansing a big hand in changing the planet? Buy your tickets now for “Laugh with a Purpose,” the comedy extravaganza featuring Lansing City Council member Kathie Dunbar talking People, Politics & Prozac at the Temple Club on Friday, April 22 at the Temple Club. The irrepressible Ms. Dunbar will be joined by special guests Tim “Don’t Hurt Me I’m A Virgin” Schmitt and Melik “Angry. Black. Man.” Angus (who always seems happy to me).

You must be 18 and able to prove it. General admission is $15 and $20 for VIPs (and aren’t we all?). Featuring MBC Brewing Company beers, a couple of decent wines and soft drinks. Tickets at the OTCA office at 1232 Turner Street or charge by phone (517) 485-4283.

Giving Old Town a good scrubbing

Serve your community and serve your planet by joining a team of volunteers working on a variety of projects throughout Old Town. In addition to giving the area a good clean scrubbing, volunteers including Big Brothers/Big Sisters will be collecting and sorting waste/recycling, painting new murals and re-painting Old Town signage, prepping flower beds and the community garden, cleaning up the riverbanks, and much more.

To register to volunteer and to select your activity preferences, go to www.earthdaylansing.com/volunteer/ Another great way to help this project is by donating some of the tools and supplies they will need to complete the work. Any tools or re-usable items will be donated to the Old Town Community Association. Some of the items needed include:

  • Push brooks
  • Trash Bags
  • Paint Supplies (contact for details)
  • Hand Tools for gardening
  • Work Gloves
  • Mop Buckets (4)
  • Mulch
  • Epoxy
  • Shovels

Or you can make it easy by giving the Earth Day Lansing folks a gift card to Menards or Home Depot! For questions or more information email us: [email protected]
