Chuck just opened up a new story arc this week involving his inability to use the intersect. The last time we saw him, his mother used some unknown device on him, which suppressed the intersect.
In the beginning of this episode, Chuck had many weird studies done to him in hopes of getting the intersect back. None of them worked, so a special agent, Jim Rye, played by Rob Ribble, was sent in to help.
His studies were very physical and he came to the conclusion that the only way Chuck could use the intersect again would be for him to fear death. Throughout much of the episode, Chuck experienced many fearful things that triggered the intersect, but it just wouldn’t work.
This led up to Jim suggesting that Chuck and him should go on a mission by themselves, and then when they are facing serious danger, the intersect will kick in. This did not go over well with Sarah, and at the end, she told Chuck that he is not a spy and that he should not go through with it.
He does go through with the mission, Jim dies, and he gets kidnapped. I thought that the special agent helping Chuck was completely nuts. His methods proved to be wrong and he was always so happy when they discussed the fact that Chuck may die.
I get the fact that he thought that would be the way to help him, but it was just not right. The character worked at times, but I did not laugh at many of the things he said or did.
In the other story of the episode, Jeff and Lester begin to get suspicious of all the people named Greta in the Buy More. The interchangeable Greta has been played by many guest stars this season, and this week is was Summer Glau who had the biggest role as the greta thus far.
At the end of the episode, Jeff and Lester get her to come into the cage in the storage room where they planned on interrogating her, but she pulls out a knife and Casey stops it. He cleverly made up a story involving her being a thief and that they did a great job to catch her.
This storyline was pretty good and it did provide some laughs. The only thing that it did was to show us that the civilian workers are beginning to find things out and if they discover that the Buy More is run by the CIA, then it would not be good.
Overall, this was a pretty good episode of Chuck. It completely deviated from the main storyline of the season, and it was a to be continued episode (even though they didn’t technically show that it is), so that means this will be another story arc for the season.
Having Chuck try to regain the intersect is a decent story, and I hope that next week’s episode can provide a big payoff from this story. Overall, this was a decent episode
College Couch Potato Grade: B-
All in all a rather forgetable episode, I thought. Getting rather same-ish to me.
Frankly, this was the first ever Chuck episode that I watched. That being said,it pretty much convinced me to watch the others.
One thing I still can’t figure out though- how is it so easy to go down into the luggage hold.
