It’s taken me a long time to do a Blue Bloods review, but I have finally gotten to it. One of the last remaining freshmen shows I have yet to comment on, this is one of the best. Along with Hawaii 5-0, they are the best new cop dramas on TV.
The interesting thing about Blue Bloods is that it isn’t about cops, but rather, it is about a family. They are the Reagans, and they come from a long line of police officers. It’s hard to say which one is the main character, but I would have to say that I think that it is Danny, who is played by Donnie Wahlberg.
Along with his brother, Jamie, his other brother who died, his father, Frank, who is the Police Commissioner, and his grandfather, Henry, who is retired, they are or were police officers. Frank is portrayed by the great Tom Selleck. The young brother Jamie is played well by Will Estes, who was on American Dreams.
The only family member who is not a cop is the sister Erin, played by Bridget Moynahan, who decided to become a lawyer instead. The family is great together and their dynamic is what makes this show as good as it is.
As for this week’s episode, it was engaging. An undercover cop was shot while playing in Central Park, and Frank, along with the Deputy Commissioner, worried that a terrorist attack would occur. So, they get Danny on the case and tell him he has 48 hours to find who shot the undercover cop and keep it all a secret.
The other story was that Jamie and his partner, Anthony Renzulli, kept getting calls from a woman about someone who was moving her stuff around. She had previously been in a psychiatric hospital, so they didn’t believe her.
However, someone was doing it and she was telling the truth. I thought that this was an ok b-story, but it wasn’t anything great.
The main story on the other hand, is what made this episode good. Danny trying to keep the truth from his partner Jackie, played by Jennifer Esposito, was interesting. They have been good together this season, but she knew he wasn’t telling her everything, and it kind of tested their trust.
In the end, some guy shot the cop over a woman and it had nothing to do with him being an undercover cop.
One of the best parts about this show is the family dinner. Each week, the family has a big dinner and talk mainly about some big issue they are dealing with. It is always interesting and again, the dynamic makes it fun to watch.
This is one of the best new shows on TV and this episode was another solid installment. If you haven’t watched this show, you should. The acting is great, the cases are interesting, and the family is really good together.
College Couch Potato Grade: B+
Thought you did a review on Blue Bloods at one point…maybe not. Anyway I do love this show. One of the best this year.
