I have to admit that I actually enjoyed the first week of auditions on American Idol. I used to watch Idol all the time, but after season 6 or 7, it became boring to me.
Just as with Amazing Race and Survivor, Idol was so redundant and predictable, that I stopped watching.
However, with the major shift in the judging panel for season 10, it might bring me back. I seriously did not have high hopes for this season, but they certainly passed them so far.
Yes, you still get all the idiots who actually think they are good when they are horrible, which is still funny. You also get the sad stories, like the single mom with the special needs daughter or the young man with a homeless family. But, in the end, it was the judging panel that made this watchable again.
After nine years of great insults and honesty, Simon left Idol and many people thought the show would tumble. Not only Simon, but Kara and Ellen left as well.
This meant that Randy was the only judge remaining, and that two other ones would have to be chosen. I have to say that I agree with the choices.
Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez were both good as they were fun, constructive, and great to watch. I have to say that Tyler was better, since he would get into some of the songs with the contestants and make some jokes here and there.
He was also not afraid to say what he thought. He wouldn’t hesitate to waste someone’s dream, which was great. As much as I want him to make another record with Aerosmith, he is doing well so far.
As for Jennifer, she surprised me. She was certainly nice, but after a while, she started doing what had to be done. I think she may be the female judge Idol was always supposed to have.
Paula may have been there for years, but she was just over the top nice and towards the end, she was a joke. She always seemed drunk, and every time she talked, she would start crying or give a standing ovation.
But with Jennifer, she has tried to strike a balance between being nice, and giving out the truth, even if it hurts. In fact, one of the harshest things said by any of the judges was by her.
In a short montage of awful performances, she said, “have you even seen this show?†As funny as those bad performances are, I can’t comprehend how many people think they are good at singing, when they are just dreadful.
Another reason why I liked Tyler and Lopez was that they were not all serious. Along with Randy, this panel had a lot of fun and it seemed a little laid back. As much as I liked Simon, he was just too serious.
I think that is why I may start watching this show again. It was way better than I was expecting, and the new panel should quite down all the people who said this show won’t be good anymore. They may be good enough to make me a fan again.

So glad that you are back to watching Idol. I know its a bit banal, but a good way to just relax and laugh and have a little competition on the side. Thought Tyler and Lopez were good as well, but maybe Randy could change up his act just a little bit, right dog?
