The ‘legendary’ speaker at right-wing darling Rocky Raczkowski’s fundraiser last week — he’s building a war chest in his bid to take out incumbent Dem Gary Peters — was Phyllis Schlafly. You may remember her as the lady who said, “By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don’t think you can call it rape.â€
On Saturday, she didn’t disappoint, delivering this doozy:
“Do you know what was the second biggest demographic group that voted for Obama? Obviously, the blacks were the biggest demographic group. Do you know what was the second biggest? Unmarried women! Seventy percent of unmarried women voted for Obama. And this is because when you kick your husband out, you gotta have Big Brother government to be your provider.â€
Not only is she factually wrong (for one, roughly 43 million white people voted for Barack Obama, as compared to roughly 15 million African-Americans), but she’s actually insisting that President Obama is using government money to buy votes. From women. Who kicked their husbands out.
I’m sure Rocky had a very clear response to this patently untrue claim… oh yea,
There is nothing honorable about Schlafly’s comment. I am a conservative woman with a family and I am deeply offended by her intolerance and disrespect. She lives in an unrealistic world and is clearly not cognizant of the role of women in society to know that their suppression is not beneficial to the community at large. I am shocked that Rocky, a candidate that I considered to be high on my moral scale, would not condemn Schlafly. It may have just cost him my vote.
I’d call her a dried-up fascist hag. But, maybe that’s just me.
