Derek Smith - Hank Williams’ Revue @ the AMP

Derek Smith as Hank Williams

Derek Smith as Hank Williams

As those who saw the LCC musical a few years ago know, Lansing musician Derek Smith channels Hank Williams on stage. He sings like him, looks like him and moves like him. A remarkable performance.

Smith will be reprising the role at the Allen Street Marketplace Friday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. in a show hosted by the Ten Pound Fiddle. He will be joined by Drew Howard on the lap steel guitar and Steve Szilagyi on bass.

Tickets are $20 each ($18 for Fiddle members), available online at www.tenpoundfiddle.org or at the door Friday night. Ticket price includes the dessert table, and there is a cash bar featuring Sleepwalker spirits and ale.

For a taste of what you will see Friday night, here are Derek and Drew with Joe Bakaitis on bass playing a couple Hank Williams’ classics.

Bonnie Bucqueroux teaches at Michigan State University's School of Journalism and experiments with citizen journalism, including co-publishing Lansing Online News with Bill Castanier. They also co-host a radio show Mondays at 7 p.m. on LCC Radio - WLNZ - 89.7.
