Erin Fox of the local chapter of MoveOn.org brought in the Billionaires comedy troupe to spoof the grim reality that only wealthy insurance executives and billionaires will win if health-care reform fails.
Though the weather was inviting, the protest drew a relatively small crowd considering the importance of the issue. Some may have stayed home to enjoy the unexpected sunshine. Others may have questioned the urgency since the House of Representatives passed the bill the night before. (It still has to survive the Senate.)
A grim but probably more likely reason for the lack of excitement on the left is that the House and Senate bills are far from the “Medicare for All” universal health-care that most progressives favor.
A wandering band of Tea Partyers eventually found their way to the site for a counter-protest. It’s a good thing I’m not a real journalist, or I would be drummed out of the corps for fighting with them before heading to my car.
