Baby Bree Green said Dada for the first time on Saturday, but her father Steve was not there to hear it. The day before, a sobbing Steve and Maria Green watched helplessly as an Ingham County Child Protective Services worker drove away with Bree after a Family Court referee decided that a home with medical marijuana was too “dangerous” to allow the child to stay.
On Tuesday, dozens of energized supporters gathered outside Michigan’s Department of Human Services in Lansing to chant “Free Bree” in the hope of persuading officials to return Bree to her parents. A succession of speakers echoed the crowd’s growing frustration that various government officials around the state are refusing to honor the protections written into Michigan’s Medical Marijuana Act.
