- Spring Cleaning Tools – Rather than purchase disposables like paper towels, re-purpose old t-shirts or bath towels into reusable cleaning rags. Â Invest in a classic rag-mop rather than one of the newer plastic models that uses wasteful disposable attachments.
- Spring Cleaning Products – Forget the harsh chemicals purchased in disposable plastics and switch to vinegar and baking soda. Â You’ll get the same results and, if you rub a little extra vinegar around your entry ways and windowsills, you’ll also help keep ants outside where they belong!
- Shopping – Shop locally for the freshest, most sustainable fruits and vegetables at any of the region’s farmers markets. Â Shopping for locally grown products eliminates much of the carbon emissions traditionally associated with transporting food products from outside your local region, but remember to ask the vendors where the produce was grown. - Grilling – Grilling can be a hazardous to the environment. Natural gas grills top the list of the least harmful options, but if you’re a hard-core charcoal griller, consider going with an eco-friendly choice such as lump charcoal made from invasive tree species or sustainable forests.
- Transportation – As the weather warms up, it’s the perfect time to consider utilizing more sustainable forms of transportation and travel.
