Author Bonnie Jo Campbell discusses her life as a writer in the videos below. She appeared for a book signing and informal chat at Everybody Reads Books & Stuff on Michigan Avenue in downtown Lansing after appearing at appearing at the 24th annual A Rally of Writers at Lansing Community College’s west campus.
Campbell was a 2009 finalist for the National Book Award for her book of short stories entitled American Salvage. The NBA citation reads: “In American Salvage, Bonnie Jo Campbell picks through the ravages of a small-town America gutted by shifting demographics, new technology, and methamphetamine. Eschewing nostalgia or bitterness, she leads with her curiosity, using canny observation and sensuous prose to coax the reader into dark, strange, primordial territory.”
Other books by Campbell include: Q Road and Women and Other Animals. Her new book, out in July, is Once Upon a River.
The interview was conducted by poet/writer/raconteur Randall Glumm, owner of the late lamented Waystation bookstore.
